Defy’s investment in its EITs includes seed
financing to launch their businesses and
opportunities to tap into Defy’s extensive
private sector network for guidance, contacts
and other supports.
Business Plan Competitions
EITs hone their sales and presentation chops by competing in two business plan competitions during the Entrepreneurship Fellowship, and then earn the opportunity to compete as often as they would like in our Incubator competitions:
- Business Pitch Competition: EITs pitch their business ideas for critical feedback from successful business executives, entrepreneurs, and investors (occurs approximately two months into the Fellowship; capital is not allocated)
- Capital Call Competition: Offers EITs an opportunity to earn up to $2,500 in proof of concept seed grants to launch their businesses
- The Big Stakes Challenge: Once in the incubator, EITs gain access to additional microloans and promotional opportunities that allow them to take their business to the next level. Defy allocates up to $100,000 in microloans, and provides those equity-ready businesses with introductions to angel investors.
